Even the snorkeling dives are interesting, especially at night. We saw two Lion Fish hiding in the rocks; they did not want to come out and rather dangerous messing with them. Lots of worms out and charging toward our dive lights—some seem to like to bite. Had a couple of big sharks check us out and some small ones when we first entered the lagoon.

Don't Care Who You Are-These Are Great Dives

Hard to believe but it can be difficult to find a dive buddy when your days off change and the majority of the island has Sunday-Monday as days off. Talked Kyle into going snorkeling again (new to the island and is not certified yet). We went out on North Point; just got out to the channel and was met by a Manta Ray. He saw us and came to check us out; flying up to us and circling several times—I think he was going to let me pet him but changed his mind for some reason. As he was next to me; larger than my outstretched arms—over 7’! Then a large shark came and checked us out—got the blood really pumping! Had at least 3 other sharks come and check us out, did I mention that this was another night dive, where they come in out of the darkness and then disappear. Found a large Lion Fish; spines outstretched, outstanding! Found another worm that loved our lights; he was about ¾” wide and less than a foot long and fuzzy spines sticking out all over! Kyle still not very comfortable with the sharks yet; he kept looking behind all the time. As we neared the shore almost to the stairway, a skinny 3’ shark was buzzing around; got confused and came straight toward my light, changing directions about 15’ before he ran into me. (Didn't take my camera this time)

Getting ready for the night dive tonight, Kevin realized that he had forgotten to bring his gloves. Oh well, no problem, and then he looked in the dip tank where our cameras were waiting for us. His strobe-flash was leaking! Pulled it out, took out the batteries and was planning to leave the flash and just take the camera. Dive still on….then his mask strap broke. Sometimes it just is not meant to be a dive day; try again tomorrow. The way things were going I bet there is a big shark really mad that his meal was not delivered tonight!

On my last day off, went on a wreck dive to 128’; then moved to Troy’s Coral Head for the next dive. It started raining hard before we got in, while we dove and all the way back to harbor. On the coral head dive a GIANT stone fish was discovered (while re-sitting one of the anchors, thinking about using the hole that he was hiding in to place one of the anchor hooks). While taking photos of that big guy a shark came up to check us out. When we dropped down the water was simply filled with fish. At one point there was what I would describe as a river of fish, flowing through with at one point a dozen sharks circling. There were also many large prey type fish waiting for their next victim. When the sharks cut out a fish below me, all the sharks charged over there, going into frenzy! The “river” of fish exploded into a great burst of speed. A truly impressive dive! With the weather churning up the seas and the rain pelting us in the face, we returned the boat and then went out on a shore dive. J

What a great day to end the work week; get off work, grab a bite to eat and head to the ocean for a night dive. We snorkeled out then dropped down for 73 minutes of pleasure. There was some sort of lobster crawling next to a large red/brown color star fish. Then a red worm that would follow the flashlight beam. There was a large fish that determined that he did not like his picture taken and swam right into a dive buddy’s head. A couple of different fern type corals and then a Tiger snake moray eel, all the way out of the rocks and swimming/crawling around. Kevin started waving his light around and gave the shark sign for the shark swimming under the coral ledge below me. I did not ever see him but a few minutes later bigger white tip shark, maybe 5’ showed up and swam around us and then disappeared out of sight into the darkness, Saw a small octopus that pulled back inside a small hole, chased around a couple of puffer fish and saw several large cone shells.

Pointing the direction home, 6,221 miles away, Ben & Sarah are headed home.
