My photo
Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands
After 35 years as an officer with the Tulsa Police Department, I retired & took a year contract job with the Kwajalein Police Dept. The wife, Scott stayed home to take care of the places and all the critters, while I headed off for my year in a tropical paradise. I am at 90% contract complete now and planning my return to the real world. I have had an amazing time and hope that you enjoy the Atoll, through my Blog. Feel free to email me if you have any questions about my time on the Rock.

I have my desk in front of the window, not many people ever get to say that they lived, somewhere, with an ocean view, and limit that down to; on a tropical island in the central Pacific! Enough of the room, its time to go on another dive!

NEW LOCATION
Roi-Namur
9° 23' 47" N
167° 28' 30" E

I am now living and working on Roi-Namur, the northern most island of Kwajalein Atoll. I have been told the population is around 100.

Roi-Namur is actually two islands, Roi and Namur, which have been linked together, making one larger land mass.

The island of Kwajalein is the southern most island of the atoll and much larger than Roi-Namur. Kwajalein is where we go for shopping or medical needs 50 miles away... we commute by air.

Mostly packed up for the move to Roi-Namur; 10 big boxes, 10 small, dive gear, a big load! My bike, trailer and me, all loaded up on the police boat, farewell to Kwaj, in the background!
The Roi Harbor ahead.

On my last day of work here on Kwaj, got a tour of this plane. It will do lots of things. The one they will talk about is broadcasting TV & radio.

Greg McCarty, me, Mark Knighton & Dan Gooch

After dives at the Ski Access and Emon ran back to the BQ, changed clothes (put on long pants, well jeans) and headed to the Dock Security Checkpoint (DSC). Met three other guys from the department and we caught the Ferry to Ebeye. Nixon, an ACO for the department had invited us to his wedding. Time is different here, we were told that the ceremony had been moved up to 2:30 but would go on to midnight. Catching the Ferry, was Nixon and friends taking the cake back to Ebeye. The time got moved to 7 PM, which meant that it started at 7:48. We had a light dinner at the only restaurant that I know of on the island and then on to the church. It was different and of course in a different language. There was a dinner and a dance program afterwards. We got invited by the King’s son to spend the night at the hotel but elected to go back to Kwaj as we had to be at work in the morning. We had a good time.

Wow! This was an impressive school.
This guy pulled partly back inside right before I took this shot.
Humphead Wrasse; a little over 3', about 1/2 size that he will reach.
Orange-Finned AnemoneFish (with Squirrel fish in back).
These guys did not act glad to see me at all...and encouraged me to leave.
This one was stuck almost back inside a hole in the coral. (Clark's?)
I had never seen a school of Morish Idols, before today.

Lots of back-splatter in picture causing the white dots.
Anemon and Anemonfish (Clown) are some of my favorites!
The belly sides are always a brilliant colors!
Had a nice fly by from a Spotted Eagle Ray.

You don't want to be where one of these lands!

Can you say, Good Morning? Get to see most of the sun rises everyday.
Got caught in a morning shower, (on bike patrol) but had a nice rainbow.
This is by Emon Beach, where lots of shore dives take place.

A friend just got back from diving Truk, lots of neat pictures.

An active start to this New Year and somehow ended up with 6 days off! Most of the days began before sun rise and going sailing with Mike and RJ for a couple of hours and then a dive later in the day. We went to grab tanks after the holiday and got the last three tanks in the tank house. Sure was glad that I do not have to fill the tanks! This afternoon Kyle and Dan agreed to go to Ebeye for a bike trip—to the end of the roadway. We ate at my daughter-in-law’s favorite place, followed with Dan getting a haircut. The “roadway” is lacking of course; my two buddies thought it was too much and refused to go on. I warned them that their actions would be noted.

Can you hear them say "Meow"? Something was hurting......

Taken just before they woosed out, but still complaining!
Just after the hair cut-- by Dawn.
These kids wanted to know where that lady was that wore the short shorts through town was?
Modern Ebeye; just jump on the taxie if you need a ride.
A short ferry ride on the LCM and it's FREE!

I am so glad I don't have to fill tanks! We got the last filled ones for our dive! All these are waiting to be refilled.
The sailing is very relaxing and enjoyable, well no so much for RJ.
Going out at dawn revealed very nice sunrise views!
